What We believe

CALC is a “confessional church” which means that its members  subscribe to written statements of what CALC believes, teaches and confesses.

We are Trinitarian, we believe in the ever-living Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. We subscribe to the three ecumenical creeds.

Central to our Association’s teaching is the ultimate authority of the Scriptures. Our Association accepts all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments as a whole and in all the their parts as the divinely inspired, revealed, and inerrant Word of God, and joyfully submits to this as the only infallible authority in all matters of life and faith.

Central to God’s written word is the saving work of Jesus Christ which becomes paramount for our faith and life. Our commitment above all is to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who died and rose again to save us from sin, death and the devil.

It is through Jesus’ death and resurrection and by his grace that we are in fellowship with God. We are called then to spread this good news to the “nations.”

We are a church of the Reformation.     Our faith and life is rooted in and is shaped by the Holy Bible and our Lutheran Confessions. We believe our  Confessions present and explain the pure doctrine of the Word of  God and  summarize of the faith of the evangelical Lutheran Church. Click here to access CALC’s Confession of Faith.

Our Purpose

God has given CALC and its members the Gospel of reconciliation. We are called to  focus and coordinate  purposes and resources so that the Triune God may be more fully known among all people through a faithful ministry of God’s Word and the Sacraments.

Our Association is called to gather our members together. We do this by facilitating events and gatherings which educate, equip and encourage our congregations to enthusiastically engage in evangelism, missions, caring ministries, Christian Education and good stewardship of their resources.

Our Association is called to develop relationships with likeminded church bodies and Christian organizations so that  our congregations are informed, equipped and inspired to support and partner with these organizations in the  fulfillment of Christ’s Great Commission in their communities and abroad.

Our Association is called to partner  with our Congregations in the training and discipline of an ordained ministry for the administration of the means of Grace. We are called to assist our members congregations in the call of their pastor and thereafter providing for their pastor’s mentorship and professional development.

Our Association is called to Study the problems of contemporary life and society in the light provided by the  sacred Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.

Marriage and Human Sexuality

Policy on Marriage: In accordance with our confession of faith, we define marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Statement on Homosexuality: This Association regards homosexual desires and behaviour as sinful and contrary to God's intent for His children (Lev. 18:22; 20:13; Deut. 23:18; Rom. 1:27; 1 Cor. 6:9-11). It rejects the contention that homosexual desires, behaviour and/or lifestyle are simply another form of sexuality equally valid with the God given male female pattern.
